India Aquaponics. Chandigarh, 2014

Ever heard of aquaponics? The term derives derives from the words aquaculture (the raising of aquatic animals for food) and hydroponics (the process of growing plants in sand, gravel, or liquid, with added nutrients but without soil). This closed loop food production technology can offer a sustainable, cost-effective alternative to traditional farming methods.

The goal of this thesis project was to adapt the technique, in order to design a pre-fabricated, easy to assemble aquaponic system that could be scaled to fit the needs of the end user. Five months were spent on the field in Chandigarh to study the context, develop a prototype and propose an innovative solution that could be launched on the Indian market.
