Trolley Roger. Delft, 2013

The Delft Institute of Positive Design in collaboration with Dutch airline company KLM, launched an initiative to rethink the function of old airplane meal trolleys, repurposing them to have a second life on the ground. The challenge was to deliver a creative design solution that would contribute to human flourishing and happiness.

Trolley Roger is an essential storage kit and collapsable sleeping space for the homeless. By making use of the sturdiness and durability that was originally intended for the trolley, its users can feel free to roam the urban environment with a safe place to stash their few vital belongings. Trolley Roger has three main configurations: Store, Sit and Sleep. When the going gets tough and the weather get rough, a waterproof cover unfolds to provide shelter and warmth.
